Chandigarh, Sept. 6 -- Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) general secretary Gurpartap Singh Wadala on Saturday urged governments to "shed their arrogant attitude" and immediately engage in dialogue with farmers protesting for their "legitimate rights". In a statement, Wadala said farmers who feed the country were being forced to take to the streets, while governments were showing little willingness to address their grievances or seek a resolution through talks. He warned that the farmers camping along roadsides should not be treated as adversaries, pointing out that they were voters who ultimately elect governments. "The same people whom the government appears to treat as enemies are the ones who cast their votes and bring governments to power," he said.
