Giani Harpreet questions jathedar over 'selective' action
Chandigarh, Oct. 2 -- A day after Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj summoned two SGPC members for meeting chief minister Bhagwant Mann regarding the rape case involving Amarjit Singh Chawla, former Akal Takht jathedar and president of Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) Giani Harpreet Singh questioned Gargaj's "selective application of Sikh religious edicts".
In his summons, Gargaj had stated that by visiting Mann, both members violated a Takht edict that declared the CM as "anti-Guru" and "anti-Panth". In a letter, Giani Harpreet Singh asked the jathedar to explain whether the December 2, 2024, hukamnama was wrong and whether the hukamnama declaring Mann as "anti-panth" was correct.
He also questioned when action would be taken against those who allegedly repudiated the December 2 directive at Muktsar. He further raised his own case, referring to the lifting of restrictions imposed on Virsa Singh Valtoha after the latter sought forgiveness before the Takht.
