Agra, Oct. 8 -- A magistrate inquiry has been ordered into the deaths of four students, who entered a 12-foot-deep underground water tank at a Sanskrit gurukul in Vrindavan on Tuesday night, allegedly to clean it after a foul smell emanated from the stored water, police said on Wednesday. A fifth student was rescued and is undergoing treatment, they said. Mathura district magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh said the inquiry would be conducted by the city magistrate. "Various other aspects related to conduct of the institute, including its registration, affiliation etc, are to be probed by the committee," he said. "The tank was 12 feet deep. The poisonous gas may have caused the deaths. Police are investigating the exact cause," Singh added. Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar said, "We have arrested Ashish Kumar Sharma, who was running the Panini Sanskrit Gurukulam, and registered a case against him at Vrindavan police station under BNS Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder)." Police said students had been asked to clean the underground tank. Initially, water was being removed with a bucket, but later a student was asked to enter the tank. When he did not respond, others went inside one after another. Four students died and another was rescued. SSP Kumar said, "The deceased were identified as Manu Katarey, 22, of Jabalpur; Devesh Sharma, 17, of Vidisha; Aryan, 18, of Kaushambi; and Vishu, 18, of Meerut. Another student, Rudraksh, was rescued and is undergoing treatment."...
