Foreign trade official held for Rs.30k graft in Panipat
Rohtak, Aug. 20 -- The CBI on Wednesday arrested an assistant director general of foreign trade (ADGFT) in Panipat district for allegedly demanding a Rs.30,000 bribe from a complainant in connection with the processing of an Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) authorisation file.
According to the CBI, a case was registered on August 19 following a complaint alleging that the ADGFT, posted at the office of the joint director general of foreign trade, Panipat, had demanded Rs.30,000 for clearing deficiencies and processing the EPCG authorisation file pertaining to the complainant's client.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on Wednesday and caught the public servant while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs.30,000.
Following the arrest, CBI launched searches at the accused officer's residential and office premises. The searches were underway at the time of filing this report. The accused is scheduled to be produced before the designated CBI court at Panchkula....
