FM urges PSBs to launch 'Banking for Youth' drive
New Delhi, Aug. 19 -- Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday urged public sector banks (PSBs) to launch a month-long "Banking for Youth" campaign from October 2 focusing on youngsters above 16 years of age.
"A focused campaign is something which is required in banking for the youth. India has one of the world's youngest populations. Our young people will increasingly shape the country's patterns of consumption, savings, investment, entrepreneurship and wealth creation," she said in her closing remarks at the two-day PSB Confluence.
Banking is also the foundational infrastructure of a person's livelihood journey. Hence, financial capability should develop seamlessly alongside adulthood, not as a reactive, stressful adjustment upon starting one's first professional engagement, she said.
The finance minister stressed on the need for banks to involve youth at an early stage. "Engaging with youth early, therefore, presents both an important responsibility and a significant opportunity for our banks," she said. "In this context, I would like PSBs to consider launching a focused campaign."...
