Mohali, April 7 -- A fire was reported in a private society of Sector 116, Mohali, around 9:30 am on Monday. Residents and the society's maintenance staff brought the fire under control before emergency teams arrived. The fire broke out in a flat, where a woman and her child live. Initial information shows that the woman left for work after lighting an oil lamp during morning prayers. Officials suspect the fire started from the lamp. Smoke coming out of the flat alerted neighbours, who informed the maintenance team. Staff members used the society's fire-fighting system to douse the flames. The flat was locked from inside, which delayed access. Residents also informed the fire brigade and police. Both teams inspected the site after the fire was contained. No injury was reported.
