Rohtak, June 5 -- With the State Grievances Redressal Committee (SGRC) ruling on May 11 in favour of farmers amid the long-pending cotton crop insurance claim dispute involving nearly Rs.350 crore, farmers on Thursday celebrated a "victory day" in Loharu, Bhiwani, where they had been holding a protest for the past 324 days. The SGRC, constituted under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, has directed insurance companies to process and settle pending claims of cotton farmers from Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts who were affected in 2023. The committee observed that several insurance claims had been rejected beyond the timelines prescribed under PMFBY guidelines. The protesters said the ongoing dharna would be temporarily suspended. However, Samyukt Kisan Morcha leaders warned that any delay or non-compliance with the SGRC directions by Kshema General Insurance Company would trigger an agitation. Vinod Phogat, Bhiwani deputy director of agriculture, said thousands of farmers from hundreds of villages in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri would be benefitted.
