Excise-CIA bust: 36k+ bottles of IMFL seized
Chandigarh, June 9 -- The Chandigarh excise department in a joint operation with the CIA staff of Chandigarh police seized 36,000 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), allegedly being moved illegally across the city on Sunday.
Following a tip-off, a team led by excise taxation inspector Shaveen Jain, along with CIA staff from Sector 11, intercepted a vehicle near IT Park traffic lights at 10:30 pm.
During the search, officials recovered 1,439 bottles of liquor, including 60 cases of Royal Stag pints and 15 cases of Rockford, which were confiscated on the spot. An FIR was subsequently registered against the driver at CIA police station in Sector 11.
Following the seizure, authorities initiated backward link investigations, which led them to a nearby godown suspected to be the source of the consignment. A raid conducted the following morning resulted in the recovery of 34,608 additional bottles of IMFL. The stock included 226 cases of Charlie Whisky and 495 cases of King Gold Whisky.
Officials said the seized stock did not bear the mandatory track-and-trace markings, raising suspicion of illegal diversion and distribution....
