Chandigarh, Oct. 26 -- Former Congress MLA from Jalalabad Raminder Singh Awla joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Sunday in the presence of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Awla, who has business interests in the agriculture and renewable energy sectors, contested the 2019 Jalalabad assembly by-election and became a legislator on a Congress ticket, defeating SAD candidate Raj Singh Dibbipura. Hinting that Awla could be the SAD candidate from the constituency in the upcoming state polls, Sukhbir said, "Now with Awla joining the party, I am confident he will put in his best to strengthen the Akali Dal in this constituency as well as the entire border belt to ensure the party's victory in 2027." Sukhbir has represented the constituency as an MLA thrice. Awla said Sukhbir was a development-oriented leader who knew how to put the state on the path of progress.
