Consumer panel members to continue till fresh recruitment
Chandigarh, Oct. 3 -- The Punjab and Haryana high court (HC) has disposed of a petition by the Tricity Consumer Court Bar Association after the UT administration informed the court that serving presidents and members of consumer commissions would continue in office until recruitment under the new rules is completed.
Appearing for the administration, advocate Himanshu Malik and Abhinav Sood submitted that a letter issued on July 20 directed existing presidents and members of the state and district commissions to continue until the recruitment process under the new rules is completed.
The information was given in response to a petition filed in July seeking an extension to the tenure of the president of the district consumer disputes redressal commission-I, Chandigarh.
The petition was disposed of by the bench of justice Tribhuvan Dahiya on September 28.
While the petition was pending, the HC in July had permitted the district commission-I president and a non-judicial member of the state commission to continue working until further orders.
The state commission has two benches - principal bench and additional bench. Besides, there are two district panels....
