Congress councillor's husband gets 2-yr jail
Hoshiarpur, July 15 -- The husband of a newly elected Congress councillor has been convicted in a Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case and sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment by a special court. The convict, Lovkesh, a resident of Rishi Nagar, was also fined Rs.20,000. In default of payment, he will undergo an additional one month's imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the Model Town police recovered 62 grams of narcotic substance from Lovkesh near Balvir Colony in February 2022.
An FIR was registered against him on February 17, 2022, under Section 21 of the NDPS Act.
The defence counsel challenged the prosecution case, pointing to alleged contradictions in the statements of witnesses. The court rejected the objections and pronounced the accused guilty....
