Cong discusses K'taka cabinet portfolios, announcement likely soon
New Delhi, Aug. 12 -- The Congress central leadership held a meeting on Tuesday to finalise portfolio allocations for the newly inducted ministers in Karnataka government and also deliberated upon thepossible induction of a woman minister in the chief minister DK Shivakumar-led cabinet, people familiar with the matter said.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, senior party leaders Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala were present in the meeting, a party functionary said, adding that the portfolios will be announced within 24 hours.
Shivakumar, who was sworn-in as the CM along with 13 ministers on June 3, expanded his cabinet on August 3, inducting 19 more ministers. After the expansion, the cabinet now has one vacant berth.
A senior leader said the issue of inducting a woman minister was also discussed.
"We have to select a woman leader keeping in mind the social and regional balance," the functionary said....
