CHANDIGARH, June 5 -- The state-level census coordination committee (SLCCC) on Thursday reviewed the progress of Phase 1 of Census 2027-- Houselisting and Housing Census operations at a meeting chaired by chief secretary KAP Sinha. The meeting was attended by state nodal officer Ghanshyam Thori, administrative secretary local government, along with senior officials from the revenue, planning, finance, rural development, and education. Deputy commissioners and municipal commissioners joined the meeting via video conferencing. The meeting was convened by Navjot Khosa, director of census operations. Sinha noted that certain districts and urban local bodies were falling behind prescribed timelines and emphasised that Phase 1 must be completed before the second week of June 2026, and no extensions would be granted.
