Community participation must to combat drugs: Minister
Chandigarh, June 26 -- Collective action and community participation is needed in the fight against drug abuse, Punjab health and family welfare minister Dr Balbir Singh said on Thursday. Addressing a conclave, themed "Sanjha Suneha - Ik Jutt Punjab", on the eve of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the minister said awareness campaigns have been initiated in schools and colleges, while sports activities are being promoted to engage youth positively.
Guriqbal Singh Mahal, former constituency in-charge of the Shiromani Akali Dal for the Qadian assembly constituency, on Thursday joined the AAP along with his supporters. Chief minister Bhagwant Mann inducted Mahal into the party. Mahal said he was impressed by the CM's pro-people policies, according to a press release. Mahal was the SAD candidate in the 2022 assembly elections and secured 31% of the total votes polled, finishing second behind Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa, who got 36% votes.
