Committee on women empowerment gets approval of House
Chandigarh, April 28 -- The Haryana assembly on Monday decided to set up a vidhan sabha committee comprising nine-legislators to deal with issues concerning women empowerment. The committee will have five women members, including the chairperson and the term of the committee will be of one year.
Parliamentary affairs minister Mahipal Dhanda moved the "official resolution" entitled "committee on empowerment of women" that the House unanimously adopted.
While moving the proposal, Dhanda said a committee on empowerment of women consisting of not more than nine members be nominated by the speaker from amongst the members of the legislative assembly. Out of the nine members to be nominated, five shall be from amongst women MLAs. The functions of the committee will include to examine reports submitted by the Haryana State Commission for Women, measures taken by the state government to secure women equality, status and dignity in all matters.
The state government claimed that Haryana has become the first state to form a special assembly committee on women empowerment under the Nari Shakti Vandan initiative.
Haryana assembly paid tributes during "obituary references" and remembered prominent personalities who died after the end of the previous session and the beginning of the special session on Monday. The House observed two minute silence also as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
Saini paid tributes and read out the obituary resolutions. The House remembered Gopi Chand Gahlot, former deputy speaker of Haryana vidhan sabha, and Jangbir Singh, former member of Parliament. The House also remembered the soldiers killed in action....
