Chandigarh, July 17 -- After days of the maximum temperature hovering around 36degC, Chandigarh saw a sharp rise in mercury on Thursday, with the day temperature climbing to 38degC. The reading went 4.7 degree celsius above normal, making it the highest maximum temperature recorded in the city so far this July. Last year, the highest maximum temperature recorded in the month of July was 36.9 degree Celsius and 39 degree Celsius in 2024. The minimum temperature remained almost unchanged over the past 24 hours, settling it at 26.3degC. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature is expected to remain around 38degC on Friday before beginning a gradual decline from Saturday onwards. The IMD has issued a yellow alert, warning of hot and humid conditions at isolated places in the city for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
