Census aligns strictly with central guidelines, says local govt dept
Chandigarh, May 22 -- The department of local government, Punjab, on Thursday clarified that all Census-related activities are being carried out strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the instructions issued by the central government from time to time.
In a statement, the department said the lists of Scheduled Castes being used on the self-enumeration portal for Census-2027 are strictly as per the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, and subsequent amendments issued under Article 341 of the Constitution of India. The clarification was issued following a controversy regarding the alleged use of a "casteist" term in the online form for Census.
The department said that as per the standard procedure followed during every Census, the lists of SCs for Census purposes are duly verified and officially supplied by the department of social justice, empowerment and minorities, Punjab.
