Panchkula, July 12 -- Traffic police on Friday impounded a Toyota Innova Hycross car and issued a Rs.33,000 challan after finding it fitted with an unauthorised siren and red-blue beacon during a routine patrol in Sector 9. The driver, who identified himself as a builder, failed to produce valid vehicledocuments. During questioning, he admitted that he had installed the siren and beacon to project influence and enhance his personal prestige, police said. The traffic team intercepted the SUV after hearing its loud siren. On inspection, officers found the illegal red-blue beacon mounted on the vehicle. Police verification further revealed that nearly 20 traffic challans for various violations were already pending against the driver in Panchkula and Chandigarh.
