Bogus billing: Goods worth Rs.5 crore seized, says Cheema
Chandigarh, May 1 -- Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday said the state's taxation department has checked over 200 vehicles and seized goods worth Rs.5 crore.
The minister said Thursday's enforcement drive targeted bogus billing and the movement of goods without documentation, with expected penalties exceeding Rs.3 crore for the violators.
"The operation was concentrated in the prominent iron and steel belt encompassing Mandi Gobindgarh, Khanna and adjoining areas. The aim of the operation was to curb tax evasion," the minister said.
"Proceedings under relevant provisions of the GST law have been initiated against the defaulters," he said.HTC...
