BJP seeks CTU buses to improve rural connectivity
Mohali, June 29 -- A delegation led by BJP's Punjab media head Vineet Joshi on Friday urged the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTUS) to introduce a regular bus service from Chandigarh's Sector 17 bus stand to Mirzapur and adjoining villages, including Gochar, Abhipur, Dulluan, Khadri and Palanpur, citing the need for better public transport, mainly for students and daily commuters.
The delegation met CTU director-cum-divisional manager Avikesh Gupta and submitted a representation highlighting the long-pending demand of residents. The delegation included local leaders and sarpanch from neighbouring villages.
Joshi said the absence of a direct and regular bus service forces villagers to rely on costly private transport or multiple connecting vehicles to reach Chandigarh for education, employment, medical treatment and other essential work. He emphasised that girl students from the rural Majri belt face particular hardship due to the lack of safe and reliable public transport.
