Hoshiarpur, Aug. 1 -- A couple and their son were killed, while their daughter was injured, after a tipper truck hit their motorcycle on the Hoshiarpur-Phagwara road past Thursday midnight, police said. The deceased were identified as Shaukat, 32, Kanija, 29 and Rehan, 6, originally from Jammu and Kashmir, and residing in Chabbewal area of Hoshiarpur district, police said. The couple's injured daughter, Ridha, 4, has been admitted to a government hospital in Hoshiarpur for treatment. According to police, the family was travelling on a motorcycle when a tipper truck struck them near Davida Ahrana village around 2 am. All of them fell on the road. The couple and their son died on the spot while the girl suffered serious injuries. The tipper truck driver fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind. Some passers-by informed the police and called an ambulance. Mehtiana station house officer Rajinder Singh said an FIR was registered and efforts were underway to arrest the absconding truck driver.
