Bathinda dhabas trim menus amid supply concerns
BATHINDA, March 14 -- Dhaba owners in Bathinda have decided to curtail their menus and switch to alternative fuel options amid concerns over the supply of commercial LPG cylinders.
Narinder Soni, president of the Dhaba Owners' Association, said: "At a meeting held on Friday, the association members agreed to remove food combos from the menu until the availability of gas improves." The owner of another medium-scale restaurant said that he is planning to purchase a diesel-run "bhatti" (furnace) to prepare food.
Gas dealers reported panic among customers seeking early cylinder deliveries, not ready to wait for the 25-day window of release of the next cylinder.
Bathinda district food and supply controller Daljit Singh said that 39 gas agency dealers cater to 5.36 lakh subscribers in the district.
Instances of panic booking were reported in the last 24 hours from a few areas in Bathinda and Talwandi Sabo. Booking pangs were due to a temporary technical glitch in the online server of oil companies. Cylinders are being supplied to consumers as per the protocol of the central government," he added....
