Panchkula, May 16 -- A local court has awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to a city resident for raping a 14-year-old girl in 2023. According to the police, accused Mohammad Mustkim, 23, who hailed from Bihar and worked as an auto driver, had taken the victim and her younger sister in his auto on December 29, 2023, when they were going to give food to their grandfather in Sector 21 around 6.30 am. The accused took the victim and her 5-year-old sister near Sector 19 and raped her there. The victim later told her mother about the incident following which an FIR was registered at the women's police station in Panchkula. The accused was arrested and pleaded his innocence. Although a detailed order was unavailable, the court convicted the accused after proving his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. He was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and one year RI under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
