ASI caught red-handedtaking Rs.8,000 bribe
Jalandhar, March 10 -- An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) has been arrested red-handed while accepting Rs.8,000 as bribe, vigilance bureau said on Monday. The accused has been identified as Gopal Singh, posted at division no. 2 police station in Jalandhar, officials said.
A VB spokesperson said that a resident of Gandhi Camp in Jalandhar, who works as an astrologer, had complained that the police had arrested his neighbour in a drug case so he visited the police station to enquire about the case. Later, the accused demanded Rs.50,000 as bribe while threatening to implicate the complainant.
According to the complainant, the amount was negotiated at Rs.20,000. They paid Rs.10,000. Later, the VB, after receiving the complaint, laid a trap and caught Gopal Singh while taking bribe. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station, Jalandhar, and further investigation into this case is in progress, the spokesperson added....
