As deaths mount on roads, Mohali admn claims progress on black spots
Mohali, April 21 -- Amid no let-up in fatal road accidents in Mohali, the district administration claims to have rectified 57 of the 93 identified accident-prone black spots, even as new vulnerable stretches continue to crop up.
The development comes against a backdrop of 239 accident deaths last year after 312 fatalities in 2024 - translating to nearly 20 deaths every month on average.

Zirakpur accounts for the highest number at 15, followed by Kharar and Sohana with 12 each, and Lalru. The latest black spot has been identified at Majat in Kharar.
Among the worst-affected locations, Dau Majra turn on NH-205 in Kharar has recorded the highest number of fatalities, followed by Barwala turn in Dera Bassi and ITI Chowk in Lalru.
During a recent review, deputy commissioner Komal Mittal directed departments to expedite work on the remaining 36 sites and ensure completion within a fixed timeline....
