Abhishek's house searched by police
Kolkata, June 14 -- A team of West Midnapore police along with the CAPF on Saturday searched the residence of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata's Kalighat area in connection with a case related to a land fraud in which Banerjee's personal assistant Sumit Roy is an accused, police said, adding that police broke open the doors after a long standoff.
According to a senior officer, a large police and CAPF contingent reached Abhishek's 121, Kalighat Road, residence at 2 am on Saturday in search of Roy after a team from Salboni police station tracked his last mobile network being active in Kalighat. The accused wasn't found at the location and no items were seized, he added.
"In the early hours on Saturday the mobile tower location revealed that he (Roy) was in Kalighat," the officer said. "After a standoff for around four hours, personnel from the Kolkata Police's disaster management group were called in to break open the locks," he added.
The officer said police entered the house at 6 am and began the search.
Meanwhile, former chief minister Mamata Banerjee rushed to Abhishek's residence soon after being alerted, people aware of the matter said....
