Mohali, Sept. 8 -- For 15 balls, Abhishek Sharma made the Fazilka Falcons bowling attack lookhelpless. Then came the moment that summed up the friendly rivalry at the IS Bindra Stadium - Shubman Gill, his India teammate and Fazilka captain, took the catch that ended Abhishek's whirlwind knock in the Sher-e-Punjab trophy tie. There was more to their evening than that exchange. Earlier, Abhishek had dismissed Gill, setting up a contest between two of Punjab's brightest batting stars. By the end, however, it was Abhishek's Amritsar Soormas who had the last laugh, chasing down 192 to win by four wickets and keep their semi-final hopes alive. Fazilka, after slipping to 20/2, recovered through Gill's commanding 67 off 35 balls and Pranshu Pratap's 40 off 33. Sanvir Singh added late fireworks with 40 off 21 as the Falcons finished on 191/6. Amritsar responded in style. Abhishek smashed 49 off 15, while Sahaj Dhawan helped forge a 79-run opening stand. Despite losing wickets in the middle overs, Amritsar stayed in the hunt. With 16 needed, Rahul Kumar held his nerve, completing an unbeaten 53 off 35 to take the Soormas across the line and keep their campaign alive....
