96-year-old woman's body donated to PGI for research

Sharma's son, Sarv Prakash Sharma, donated her body with the support of her daughter, Uma Agnihotri, daughter-in-law, Neeru Sharma, grandson Abhimanyu and other family members.
Sharma had voluntarily signed PGIMER's body donation card, hoping to contribute to the society even after death.
Despite having limited formal education, Sharma believed that knowledge, compassion and service mattered more than social conventions, her family said.
She viewed body donation as an extension of her philosophy that society, which had given her so much, deserved something in return.
She also generously supported orphanages and non-governmental organisations working for poor and deprived communities.
Her husband, late Mahan Bir Sharma, had similarly chosen to donate his body for medical purposes.
His body was donated to BJ Medical College, Pune, in 2012, where he had been receiving treatment....
