8 killed in Jaipur firecracker warehouse blaze, probe ordered
Jaipur, June 10 -- At least eight people died after a massive fire broke out at an illegal firecracker warehouse in Jaipur's Kho Nagoriyan area on Tuesday, triggering panic in the densely populated neighbourhood, police said.
The blaze erupted around 11am at the warehouse located near an ITI College in the Ayesha Nagar Talai area of Kho Nagoriyan. Fireworks stored inside the premises exploded after the fire spread rapidly, making the rescue operations difficult. Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College Principal Dr. Deepak Maheshwari confirmed that all injured persons who were brought to the hospital succumbed to their injuries during treatment. He identified six victims while the identity of two was yet to be ascertained. Maheshwari identified the deceased as Wahid (50), Rabil (age not known), Bilal (30), Sameer (20), Azeem (age not known), Nasir (20) and two unidentified victims, one of which was treated at JNU hospital.
Of these Azeem, Nasir, Sameer and Bilal worked at the warehouse, officials said. Authorities suspect the fire was triggered by combustible material stored inside the warehouse. Jaipur Collector Sandeep Nayak said the exact cause would be determined after a detailed investigation.
Jaipur police commissioner Sachin Mittal said, "The warehouse was operating illegally in a residential area. Action will be taken against its owner after a thorough investigation."...
