6 from Raj returning home for Holi die in UP e-way accident
Lucknow, March 4 -- Six people from Rajasthan died and seven others, including four children, were injured when a private double-decker bus crashed into the moving van they were travelling in on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district early on Tuesday, police said.
Police booked the bus driver for causing death and injuries due to reckless driving.
Hathras additional superintendent of police RP Kushwaha said the accident occurred around 4am near milestone 141, close to Garhi Hariya village under Sadabad police station limits. The bus was going to Gorakhpur from Delhi, while the van was heading from Delhi to Rajakhera in Dholpur district of Rajasthan. All 13 occupants of the van were residents of Dholpur and were returning home to celebrate Holi.
Police said the impact hurled the van nearly 10 feet off the road, crushing its rear portion completely. The bus's front was also damaged, though its passengers escaped unhurt.
Preliminary probe suggests overspeeding and negligence may have led to the accident.
Superintendent of police Chiranjiv Nath Sinha said the accident occurred when the bus was attempting to overtake the van.The bus driver, operator and conductor have been arrested, he said. A case is being registered under the relevant sections of BNS. Strict action will also be taken against the bus owner and others associated with the vehicle, Sinha said.
The deceased have been identified as Dinesh (50), his wife Sunita (48), Vijay Baghel (27), his wife Pinki Baghel (26), Lokesh (35), and Nathu Devi (65), he said....
