Srinagar, Sept. 29 -- At least five people, including a woman and her nine-month-old toddler, lost their lives after a vehicle they were travelling in fell into the Kishanganga river in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, officials said. Police said the SUV was travelling on the Teetwal-Simari road in the Karnah area when the driver lost control of the vehicle. "Five people have died and three have sustained injuries. An investigation is being carried out in the case," a police officer said. The injured were shifted to Tangdhar sub-district hospital, from where they were referred to the Government Medical College in Handwara. Chief minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief and directed the administration to extend the best possible treatment to those injured, his office stated on X. Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha also expressed grief. In a post on X, he wrote, "Praying for the early recovery of the injured. I have directed the district administration to ensure the best possible treatment to the injured."...
