Sangrur, April 21 -- Over 34 lakh tonnes of wheat has been procured till April 19, cabinet minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said on Monday. The food, civil supplies and consumer affairs minister, who inspected the procurement operations in Sangrur and then in Barnala, said the state government is making sure that the grain is lifted and payment credited into farmers' accounts within stipulated time frame. Out of the 38.72 lakh MT that arrived in mandis till April 19, procurement agencies have purchased 34,16,926.10 MT, while traders accounted for 6,163.30 MT of the produce. Additionally, an amount of Rs.1,818.31 crore has been credited into farmers' accounts. "Sangrur's 170 mandis expect the arrival of 9.5 lakh MT wheat, out of which 4 lakh MT has already reached. A total of 3.52 LMT of the wheat has been procured and payment to the tune of Rs.351.81 crore made to farmers. So far, 30,158MT has been lifted from the district mandis," he said....
