3 Shahkot cops shifted after CCTV shows them planting liquor evidence
Jalandhar, April 12 -- The station house officer (SHO) of Shahkot and two other police personnel have been transferred to the Police Lines after a CCTV video shared on social media purportedly showed them planting illicit liquor in a suspect's house.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Harvinder Singh Virk ordered the immediate shift and a formal inquiry into the incident following an FIR registered on April 9.
The original case involved the alleged recovery of 35 litres of lahan (raw liquor) from the house of a suspect named Akram. However, the SSP said the CCTV footage shows a drum being brought into the premises from outside, contradicting the official recovery report.
Preliminary investigations indicate the police arranged the container to frame the accused.
The transferred officials include SHO Balwinder Singh, ASI Sukhwinder Singh, and woman constable Harmanpreet Kaur. SP, Investigation, Vaneet Ahlawat has been directed to conduct a probe and submit a report, with the SSP promising strict action against any personnel found guilty of misconduct....
