3 BJP rebels withdraw papers after meeting with CM Saini
Panchkula, April 29 -- In a shot in the arm for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Panchkula, three rebels who had filed their papers as Independents withdrew their nominations on Tuesday, after a meeting with Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini.
Tuesday was the last day for withdrawal of papers.
The trio - Ritu Goyal, the councillor of Ward 3, Sonia Sood of Ward 4, and Sushil Garg of Ward 14 - were miffed over being denied party tickets despite having strong hold over the areas.
The party has instead fielded Suresh Verma from Ward 3, Bharat Hiteshi from Ward 4, and Rakesh Goyal from Ward 14.
Earlier, Saini attended a public meeting in Sector 10, where he praised Sonia Sood and her husband, BJP district vice-president Umesh Sood, for their social work and urged party workers to maintain unity.
