29-yr-old taking part in pigeon race shot dead
Tarn Taran, May 17 -- A 29-year-old man, visiting Tarn Taran's Ram Khara village to participate in a pigeon race, was shot dead in broad daylight on Saturday.
The deceased, Gurpreet Singh, alias Gora, was a resident of Jhugian Kalu village and the only brother of four sisters.
According to information, Gurpreet was participating in a pigeon race tournament at Ram Khara village on Saturday. During the event, one of his pigeons reportedly landed inside a house. As he reached the house to retrieve it, unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire on him, killing him on the spot.
Police officials, including Sadar Patti station house officer Gurcharan Singh, superintendent of police (Detective) Sukhninder Singh, deputy superintendent of police Shivdarshan Singh and Ghariala police post in-charge assistant sub-inspector Parmjit Singh, reached the scene after being alerted.
Police said the deceased had been out on bail in a murder case registered four months ago. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the murder and trace the assailants.
The body was moved to the Patti civil hospital mortuary.
Family members and the village sarpanch said Gurpreet worked as a labourer at Bahadurnagar Mandi and had come to Ram Khara specifically for the event....
