22-kg poppy husk seized, man held in panchkula
Panchkula, July 20 -- A team of the anti-narcotics cell of the district police arrested a man and seized 22 kg of poppy husk from his vehicle near Chandimandir on Friday evening. The accused, identified as Gurcharan Singh alias Guddu, a resident of Khata village in Panchkula, was intercepted following a tip-off, officials said.
According to the FIR, the police set up a naka near the Chandimandir toll plaza and stopped the accused's vehicle (HR-58B-4085).
During the search, officers recovered 22 kg of poppy husk concealed in a plastic sack inside the vehicle. The accused failed to produce any licence or permit for possessing the contraband.
The police also seized the vehicle, a mobile phone, Rs.750 and two debit cards. A case has been registered under Section 15(b) of the NDPS Act at Chandimandir police station, and further investigation is underway. Police said that during preliminary questioning, the accused disclosed that he had procured the poppy husk from Rajasthan.
He was produced before a local court that remanded him to five days of police custody....
