2 killed as modified rickshaw overturns
Mohali, May 16 -- Two men were killed after a modified motorcycle-rickshaw allegedly overturned due to rash and negligent driving near Bansepur village inMullanpur, police said.
The deceased were identified as Ashok Yadav and Rajan. Police have booked the driver, Damodar, a native of Uttar Pradesh, living in Bahalpur village of Kharar, under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to police, the group had allegedly consumed alcohol before the accident.
While returning, Damodar allegedly drove the vehicle at high speed and lost control, causing the modified rickshaw to overturn into a low-lying area near the roadside. Yadav and Rajan were crushed under the vehicle and died on the spot. Police said Damodar and another occupant, Aman, allegedly fled after the accident.
The case came to light after Yadav's wife filed a complaint stating that Damodar had arrived at their house on Tuesday and taken her husband along. When he did not return till late night, the family started searching for him.
The next morning, Aman allegedly led the family to the accident site near Bansepurvillage, where Yadav and Rajan were found trapped beneath the overturned vehicle.
Twenty passengers sustained injuries after a private bus going from Manali to Delhi overturned near Chhat Light Chowk in Zirakpur early Friday morning following a collision with a truck. A youth also got trapped under the bus and suffered a fracture in his arm. The bus was carrying at least 45 passengers at the time.
According to police, a truck travelling from Zirakpur towards Patiala allegedly hit the bus, causing it to overturn and throw several passengers off their seats.
The injured were rushed to Dera Bassi civil hospital, while those critically injured were later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector-32.
Assistant superintendent of police Gazalpreet Kaur said the injured passengers were shifted to hospitals with the help of the Sadak Suraksha Force (SSF) and local police teams.
Police have started an investigation into the accident....
