Chandigarh, Aug. 12 -- Nearly 1,800 out of 1,829 property mutation cases have been processed within seven days of registration since the launch of Chandigarh's auto-mutation system, which completed one year on Tuesday. Introduced on July 7, 2025, by the estate office, the system enables automatic mutation of properties immediately after registration of sale deeds, eliminating the need for a separate application. Once a deed is registered at the sub-registrar office, the data is transmittedelectronically to the estate office, where the mutation is processed digitally at the back-end. Officials said the reform has significantly reduced citizen interface, as property owners are no longer required tovisit the estate office or submit documents multiple times. The system also curbs the role of middlemen andprovides real-time updates through SMS-based tracking. As per the prescribedtimelines, mutation of leasehold properties is completed within two working days, while freehold properties areprocessed within seven working days.Only 29 are currently under process within the stipulated time frame.
