'The Matrix is taken from Bhagavad Gita'
India, June 13 -- After more than a decade in the industry, Siddharth Gupta says that Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart finally gave him his due as an actor. The first instalment of the trilogy released last month and saw him play Krishna.
"When I auditioned for the role, the makers saw Krishna in me. I think Lord Krishna himself showed me how to play this. That's when I realised that I don't really know much about it," he tells us.
Instead of turning to film or TV adaptations for reference, Gupta prepared by immersing himself in the Bhagavad Gita.
"The Siddharth who got the character and who I am today are two completely different people. I started understanding my brain better," the 32-year-old shares, adding, "It's not propagating anything, it's more about a way of life. Even if you see the movie The Matrix (1999), it's Maya, it's completely taken out of the Gita. It shows you the power of the human brain, which we have not tapped into yet. All of those ansh (answers) you will find in the Gita."
The Wachowskis, creators of The Matrix films, had famously built the journey of Keanu Reeves' character Neo as a modern, cyberpunk reflection of Arjuna's spiritual awakening under the guidance of Krishna.
Gupta, who will next be seen in the second instalment of the trilogy in 2027, says that the role and the scripture changed his everyday life: "From sattvik food habits and sleeping habits to the way I spoke to people changed... It took me time to get back to normal after the film, but I don't mind having a bit of Krishna in me forever."...
