New Delhi, Aug. 13 -- India is on course to achieve a record $1 trillion of exports in the current financial year despite global headwinds, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday, adding that exports are expected to grow by about 15% in the first four months of 2026-27. India recorded exports of $863 billion in 2025-26, comprising $442 billion in merchandise exports and $421 billion in services, Goyal said at the inaugural ceremony of the Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav in New Delhi. "In the last five-six years, we have seen approximately 73% growth in exports," he added. "The goal this year is set with a big leap at $1 trillion," Goyal said, adding that raising exports from $863 billion to $1 trillion with 15-16% growth would be a herculean task amid global uncertainty and two ongoing wars. He said such growth would be unimaginable for most countries. "But you will be happy to know, under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, when I analyse data for the first four months (of current financial year) from April to July, export growth is approximately 15%," he said. The government is yet to release official trade data for July, which is expected on Thursday. According to government released so far, merchandise exports for the first quarter of 2026-27 stood at $129.32 billion, up 15.9% from $111.57 billion in the same period last year. Estimated services exports, however, grew 6.1% in the quarter to $103.41 billion from $97.41 billion a year earlier. Officials said the figure is likely to be revised upwards when actual June data is computed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)....
