India, July 22 -- W hen filmmaker Christopher Nolan attended the New York premiere of The Odyssey on July 14, he wore a custom Ajrakh silk tie by a New York-based Indian-origin menswear designer, Aahaan Tandon, bringing the centuries-old textile craft to the international red carpet. Speaking to us, Tandon reveals that the commission came through one of Nolan's sons, a close friend. "He reached out about creating a custom tie to accompany the Zegna suit Christopher Nolan would wear to the premiere. I developed several options, and this design was selected. It's incredibly rewarding to see it spark so much interest," the 23-year-old says. Designed and handmade in New York using fabric sourced from India with help from his aunt, Mumbai-based textile designer Anu Tandon Viera, the tie reflects Tandon's effort to place Indian textiles naturally within contemporary menswear. He says, "More than making a statement, it was about demonstrating possibility. Indian textiles have an extraordinary history of craftsmanship and can exist naturally within global fashion." Tandon, who studied fashion and film at Parsons School of Design, hopes to dress actor Riz Ahmed and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani next. "They represent culture, creativity and identity in thoughtful ways. I'd love to design for them," he shares....
