Welcome To The Jungle crossesRs.100 crore; Trade sees long run
India, July 5 -- A
kshay Kumar-led Welcome To The Jungle has crossed the Rs.100-crore gross mark in India, with trade website Sacnilk pegging its current gross collection at approx Rs.116.27 crore.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh believes the film has connected with audiences beyond the metros: "We have forgotten to make films for the audience beyond the metros, for tier-2 and tier-3 centres. This movie is for them. If you see the business, a huge chunk is coming from smaller centres. Films like these used to do really well in the '70s, '80s, and this film is bringing that back."
Film critic Komal Nahta feels the film's madcap humour and escapist appeal have worked in its favour. "Indian audiences don't mind madcap comedy if it helps them forget their daily tensions and laugh to their hearts' content. Once the public starts enjoying, logic is the last thing on their minds. Madcap comedy is an accepted genre," he says, adding that the film is likely to continue its strong run in the second week.
Film exhibitor Akkshay Rathie credits the success to Akshay Kumar returning to a genre that his fans love: "The response is purely because the film delivers solid entertainment value. This is Akshay Kumar back in the zone where he made those commercial entertainers audiences loved. An average viewer goes to the theatre for escapism, and this genre gives them that in abundance."...
