Are protein shakes always as healthy as they seem?
India, May 18 -- Protein is having a major moment, and more people are adding protein powders and shakes to their diets. But while these products are often marketed as healthy, not all are nutritionally balanced. "Many ready-to-drink options and flavoured protein powders contain added sugars, artificial sweeteners, or syrups to enhance taste," says Dr Vijay Kumar Sharma, Internal Medicine Doctor at Regency Hospital.
In some cases, a single serving can also contain 15-25 grams of sugar, almost as much as a soft drink. "Regular consumption can lead to weight gain, blood sugar spikes, and a higher risk of lifestyle-related conditions," the doctor warns.
