Sri Lanka, May 28 -- Nirmal Fernando, the former Youth Affairs Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya who joined a rally led by Namal Rajapaksa in Panadura on May 24, has apologised over the incident.

Speaking to the media today (28), he explained the circumstances surrounding his decision.

He said:

"I was the Youth Affairs Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, for the Panadura Electorate. I also served as the Media Secretary. I had been working with the SJB since 2019. However, due to the inappropriate conduct of certain electoral organisers who were in this area recently, I had become somewhat disillusioned. I informed the party leadership about this on several occasions, but the issues were not resolved. I was deeply hurt.
