Sri Lanka, Sept. 7 -- The Ministry of Environment has decided to temporarily close Yala National Park from September 14 to around October 10 due to prevailing high temperatures and their impact on wildlife.

Deputy Minister of Environment Anton Jayakody said the authorities had given travel agents and other tourism stakeholders around one month's advance notice of the planned closure, enabling them to make the necessary arrangements and inform visitors accordingly.

He said the decision had been taken in view of the prevailing hot weather conditions and their potentially severe impact on animals in the national park.
