Woman remanded for fleeing with gold after securing loan
Sri Lanka, May 18 -- A female suspect who fled with redeemed gold items after obtaining a loan of over 25.3 million rupees from a financial institution in Panadura to release the mortgaged items was remanded until the 26th of this month.
The Panadura Special Crimes Investigation Unit produced the suspect before the Panadura Magistrate's Court. Police stated that the woman, arrested in Panadura, is a 39-year-old resident of a housing scheme in Modara.
Police managed to recover a stock of gold items, valued at nearly ten million rupees, which the arrested suspect buried in the ground. The police initiated investigations into the incident based on a complaint lodged by a financial institution in Panadura.
