Woman Police Sergeant arrested for defrauding police funds
Sri Lanka, Aug. 2 -- A woman Police Sergeant serving at Iginiyagala Police Station has been arrested by Ampara Police's Special Crime Investigation Unit for defrauding approximately Rs. 290,000 in revenue collected by the station for various official duties.
The financial irregularity was reportedly uncovered during an internal audit conducted by the Ampara Police Superintendent's Office.
Revenue collected by police through various services, including the issuance of licences for loudspeakers, is required to be properly deposited into the official account of the Ampara Police Superintendent's Office. Police say the audit confirmed that the suspected Sergeant had failed to deposit money received by the station in this manner.
