Sri Lanka, Aug. 23 -- Steps were taken to temporarily suspend drinking water purification and distribution activities of the Ambalantota Water Treatment Plant from this (23) afternoon, National Water Supply and Drainage Board announces.

This step was taken as a situation emerged where water purification activities cannot be conducted with the water level of the Walawe River dropping rapidly from the Ambalantota area.

It is mentioned that due to this, the drinking water supply had to be limited to several suburban towns and villages including Ambalantota, Mirijjawila, Hungama, Nonagama, Bataatha, Angunakolapelessa, and Barawakumbuka.
