Vegetable supplies to katugastota Economic Centre drop by over 50%
Sri Lanka, Nov. 5 -- Vegetable supplies to the Katugastota Economic Centre dropped by more than 50% due to heavy rains affecting cultivation in several parts of the country.
D.N. Silva, President of the Wholesale Traders' Association of the centre, stated that the drop in production of upcountry vegetables led to a sharp decline in daily supplies.
Continuous heavy rains affected vegetable cultivation and reduced the quantity of vegetables reaching the centre by more than half, he stated.
The shortage also caused vegetable prices to increase sharply, he noted.
