Sri Lanka, May 8 -- Prices for upcountry and low-country vegetables rose significantly across the island.
An official from the Nuwara Eliya Economic Centre informed the Hiru News Division that a lack of adequate supply to meet this month's demand caused the price hike.
According to farmers, retail prices now stand at Rs. 500 for a kilogram of beans, Rs. 300 for leeks, and Rs. 450 for carrots.
Additionally, capsicums sell for Rs. 400 per kilogram, while cabbage reaches a retail price of Rs. 200.
